That'll be Bristol - Algiers, then

Following up the earlier post on 'The Three Body Problem' (Cixin Liu), I've just ordered ‘The Dark Forest’ (The Three-Body Problem, Book 2) from Amazon, and bought the 3rd book 'Death's End' last week (it's on the waist-high books-to-be-read toppling-over heap next to the bed); I'll probably get 'The Dark Forest' off Audible to listen to in the car as well (that's 23 hrs 11 mins)

Anyway, reading the 'reviews' of The Dark Forest' on Amazon after viewing the current sales figures of 3S10: The Saving Remnant (Something Needs To Be Done About The Humans) on Amazon cheered me up. Some people will like your book, some will hate it, some don't give a damn either way. Just keep on pushing that plough thru' the deep snow.

Following on from 'The Three-Body Problem', the Trisolaran invasion fleet has been launched from the nearby Centaurus system and is 400 years out from Earth. Trisolaran technology appears invincible and worse, the Trisolarans can listen to everything happening on Earth *and* have a fifth column of human supporters for their genocidal mission.

Liu Cixin's science fiction is old-school and high-concept, inspired equally by Isaac Asimov's psychohistory and China's ancient history. This second volume grapples with the problem: how can you deal with an extermination force of overwhelming military superiority, almost perfect data intelligence but one which is hundreds of years away, past any planning horizon politicians, the military and the people are accustomed to?

As ever, the author's solutions are ingenious while in volume three, 'Death's End' (due out in April 2016), his ambitions seem to be set even higher.

This is the second book in the trilogy of The three body problem and the most interesting one.
I do find it to be way too verbose, the trilogy is about 1,800 pages, when it should have been much better if it was halved in length.
The third book (Deth's ending) is particularly absurd even for Si-Fi, and waaay too long.

The writing varies from excellent to clunky, but the ideas and story are great. Some old characters return, as the story moves to the future. Lots of intriguing science stuff and ethical conundrums. I will now read the next book.

Brought this for my kindle reader after reading The Three Body Problem. It carries on the story with most of the characters from the first book. There are some good concepts which I enjoy in sci fi. There were one or two plot holes but these did not detract too much form the overall story. The story telling and plot are a little simplistic at times and not on par with 'Hyperion' or 'The Forever War' for example. However, if you like sci-fi with a few plot twists and turns you will enjoy this.
